The Afterimage Fist is a Physical Martial Arts Technique that is introduced by Jackie Chun in the Dragon Ball series.

Usage[]

This technique is created by a user's swift physical movements creating an intangible, transparent, distorted, decoy of the castor that in itself cannot perform autonomous tasks. The technique is commonly used to confuse its target, to mistake them for the user to give the opportunity to perform a counterattack.[2][3]

Murasaki of the Red Ribbon Army refers to the Afterimage Fist as the Bunshin no Jutsu (ぶんしんじゅつ; Viz "Afterimage Speed Illusion"; Literally meaning "Clone Technique"), a form of ninjutsu centered around self-replication.[7] However, Murasaki's version of said technique involves his brothers instead of actual high-speed movement.

In the anime, Chin Taiken employs a variation of the Afterimage Fist known as the Phantom Star Fist (幻星拳, Genseiken; English "Phantom Star Technique"). However, with the exception of the name and the philosophy behind it, there is no difference between the two techniques.

Trivia[]

  • In the anime, Karin claimed to be the inventor of the technique.
  • Despite being a different technique with a similar result, Afterimage Sorcery is typically grouped together with the Afterimage Sorcery in games.
