Assimilation is a technique all Nameccians are born with, which allows them to merge with another Nameccian to increase their strength.

Unlike many techniques in the series, and more in like with the Nameccian species, the Assimilation technique requires no training to perform, and is simply a skill all Nameccians are born with. Even Nameccians who have never heard of the skill are capable of using the technique when it is brought to their attention.[7] Both Nameccians decide who will be the 'host' and who will be assimilated prior to the actual act of merging; the host body will retain all of the memories of the assimilated individual in addition to gaining their power. The technique was originally used with the goal of powering up ones allies, more than likely because the Nameccians are not a naturally powerful species on their own. Once they are entirely merged, it is not possible to separate into two beings again, though Piccolo was certain he could drive Nail from his body if the results of the merger were disappointing. Once fully merged, the Nameccians power will increase several times over.[7]

In both the anime and manga, it has been either outright shown or simply suggested, that the Nameccian who is assimilated is not truly 'lost', and remains within the host bodies subconscious. This was shown during Piccolo's battle with Freeza, when Nail spoke through him to intimidate the tyrant,.[8] Piccolo also attributed his ploy to feigning defeat as God's idea, not his own.[9][10] Because God and Piccolo were originally one Nameccian that doesn't remember his true name, he referred to himself as neither God nor Piccolo, but an entirely different being altogether at first but later going back to Piccolo after he adjusted to the assimilation. He even waved goodbye to Mr. Popo after the merge and went to fight cell, showing God still had influence over Piccolo temporarily and bid his old and dearest friend farewell.

  • In the Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game names this technique as the "Namekian Fusion" instead of "Assimilation", and the technique is listed as Taijutsu (体術; Literally meaning "Body Techniques").
  • In the dub, Nail appears one additional time in Fear Me! Freeza Fights With a Third Transformation!? where he encourages Dende to go heal Vegeta.
