"Now, Goku! A Final Technique with Everything on the Line" (いまだ悟空!すべてを賭けた最後の大技, Ima da Gokū! Subete o Kaketa Saigo no Ōwaza; FUNimation "Saiyan Sized Secret") is the thirty-first episode of the Dragon Ball Z anime.

Summary[]

Thanks to the Kaiōken x3 technique, Gokū has the upper hand against Vegeta, but the Saiyan Prince will not give up so easily. He decides that if he can't beat Gokū, he will destroy the Earth. He flies high up in the air and fires his Garlic Cannon attack. Gokū unleashes the Kamehameha wave, and the two energy blasts meet in midair. Gokū and Vegeta pour all of their energy into this attack, and after a long struggle, Vegeta's blast is pushing Gokū's back, even with Gokū using the Kaiōken x3 attack. With no choice left, Gokū uses a Kaiōken x4 attack, and with the extra power, he is able to blast Vegeta into space. However, Vegeta is able to recover, and flies back down to Earth. Gokū is completely spent, and Vegeta claims to have a trick up his sleeve. After telling Gokū the origin of how Saiyans transform into Great Monkeys by Bruits Waves: an energy source that exceeded 17 million zenos during the full moon, he creates and launches an artificial moon into the sky. Absorbing the Bruits Waves reflected from the artificial moon, Vegeta begins to transform into a Great Monkey as Gokū looked on in horror. Meanwhile, Kuririn and Gohan feel the tremendous surge in energy coming from the battlefield, and decide to head back.

Trivia[]

  • This episode is the first episode to introduce the concept of Bruits Waves, which explained precisely how a Saiyan transformed into a Great Monkey. The concept would not be revisited again until the anime-only filler series, Dragon Ball GT.
