Dragon Ball Daima (ドラゴンボールDAIMA, Doragon Bōru Daima) is an anime series produced by Toei Animation, with story and character designs by Akira Toriyama, and is the fifth animated series in the Dragon Ball franchise. It was announced on October 12, 2023.[1]. The series run for 20 episodes from on October 11, 2024 to February 28, 2025.[2][3] The anime can be watched on Crunchyroll and Netflix.

Plot[]

Main article: List of Dragon Ball Daima episodes The story of Dragon Ball Daima is set over six months following the aftermath of the Majin Boo Arc. Son Gokū and his friends are turned small due to a conspiracy by the new king of the Demon Realm Gomā and the Makaiōshin Degesu, who kidnap Dende. A mysterious young Majin named Glorio appears before them with the request to stop Gomā, to solve their predicament and save Dende, Gokū and his friends will embark in a journey to the Demon Realm. Gokū and friends will search for the realm's Dragon Balls to solve their quandary, and on their journey they will meet allies like princess Panzy and fierce opponents like the Gendarmerie and the Tamagami.

A new trailer showcasing Goku and bits of action debuted during “DRAGON BALL Games Battle Hour 2024” Event. Character designs from Akira Toriyama were presented.[4]

On September 2, 2024 Fuji TV announced that Dragon Ball Daima would release on October 11, 2024; at the time Fuji TV programming director revealed that all episodes were ready.[2]

On September 3, 2024 a new trailer was released showcasing the brand new characters of Glorio and Panzy, the Demon Realm, the series opening song "Jaka Jaan" produced by Zedd.[5]

On September 10, 2024 the official Dragon Ball Daima site unveiled the designs for the new characters of Gomah, Degesu, Dr. Arinsu and the series ending theme "Nakama".[6]

On September 12, 2024, the streaming platform Crunchyroll announced they will the series available for viewing alogside its October 12, 2024 debut.[7]

The anime had a world premiere screening on October 6, 2024 at a special "Dragon Ball Daimatsuri" event at the Tokyo Big Sight.[8]

The anime premiered on Japanese TV and streaming service Crunchyroll on October 11, 2024.

The anime debuted on Netflix on October 14, 2024 on Asian regions, and then globally on October 18, 2024.[9]

The English dub debuted on U.S. theaters on November 10-12, 2024.[10]

On December 3, 2024, Crunchyroll announced that the english dub of would release on January 10, 2025.[11]

  • “DAIMA” is a made-up term by Toriyama, which in Japanese characters would be “大魔” or in English would be something like “Evil.”[1]
  • The anime title of "DAIMA" was only finilized just a few days before its official reveal.[1]
  • Dragon Ball Daima is the first Dragon Ball anime series to broadcast in a late night timeslot.[2]
