The Garlic Cannon is a powerful Ki Manipulation Technique, similar in nature to the Kamehameha. It is one of Vegeta's signature techniques, the first named technique he used in the Dragon Ball series.

Usage[]

After cupping the back of his palm into the open palm of his other hand, Vegeta begins to charge a tremendous amount of ki which is concentrated into a point in his open palm. While in most appearances, it takes a rather standard form as a beam technique, in its first use in the series against Son Gokū, Vegeta's entire aura pulsed aggressively with discharge that would later flow outwards once Vegeta thrust both of his hands out toward his target. During its aforementioned use against Gokū, it demonstrated enough power to rival the force behind Gokū's Kamehameha fueled by a threefold Kaiōken; almost appearing to be enough to push it back, before Gokū pumped it up to fourfold.

While the technique was later replaced by the use of Final Flash in Vegeta's moveset, after the famous clash in the series between it and the Kamehameha, the Garlic Cannon is often considered to be Vegeta's signature technique in the same vein that the Kamehameha is known best as Gokū's signature technique.

Trivia []

  • In the Nicktoons airing of Dragon Ball Z: Kai, the "Garlic Cannon" was named the "Galick Blast", as opposed to the normal localization of "Galick Gun". This is more than likely due avoiding references to firearms within the technique's name. A similar case happened with the Genki Dama, called the "Spirit Bomb" in the dub, being renamed "Spirit Blast".
  • The color for the Garlic Cannon varies depending on the source. In the manga, the technique (and many of Vegeta's subsequent techniques) are colored yellow. In the anime, Vegeta's Garlic Cannon is colored purple, and remains such even in his Super Saiyan state, unlike the Final Flash, which is seen to change.
  • According to the Daizenshū, the Big Bang Attack was derived from the Garlic Cannon.[citation needed]
  • In the video-games there has been many exclusive users of this technique such as Tarble.[6]
