|Manga Debut||Chapter -|
|Movie Debut||Movie 20|
Kikono (キコノ) is a long-standing member of the Freeza Army.
Kikono has served in the Freeza Army since the time of Cold. For the army, he is a brilliant scientist, and the Scouter, Combat Jacket, and space-ships that the army used are the result of Kikono's efforts. Kikono was seen serving under Freeza twenty-two years prior to the start of the series, when Freeza began to truly consider the destruction of the Saiyans. Kikono believed that the Saiyans did, at least, make for good fighters, but Freeza decided to through with his plan in a month's time. The scientist was given orders from his Emperor to inform surviving Saiyans that a meteor had crashed into Vegeta.
Kikono is shown to be comfortable speaking with Freeza, stating his own opinions and showing a sense of familiarity with his Emperor. While he has no compassion for the Saiyans, Kikono was pragmatic enough to consider their value as combatants before agreeing with Freeza's destruction of ninety-nine percent of the species.
- Kikono's name is an anagram of the Japanese word for mushroom, kinoko (キノコ).
- Kikono's backstory is an example of a retcon within the Dragon Ball universe. Toriyama stated in an interview with Naho Ōishi that an alien named "Gichamu" reverse enegineered the Scouters that the Tsufruians invented. It isn't known if Kikono is just "Gichamu" under a different name.
