Merus (メルス, Merusu) is a former trainee Angel placed in the Mortal Realm so he could learn the way of things and broaden his perspective. After gaining a bias towards the side of good, he broke his race's single law, resulting in him being temporally erased. Taking mercy on him, the Grand Priest resurrected him as a mortal with a lifespan, after which Merus began going by Merus Ikanoichiyabosshi (メルス・イカノイチヤボッシ, Merusu Ikanoichiyabosshi)[1] and returned back to being an elite member of the Galactic Patrol in the 7th Universe.

Background[]

At some point in the past, Merus defeated Saganbo's bandits—including OG73-1, Shimorekka, and Yunba—resulting in them being locked up at Galactic Patrol Headquarters.[2]

Personality[]

Appearance[]

Merus is a short-statured angel with short pale-colored hair. He has purple skin and dark violet-colored eyes. Merus wears a standard Galactic Patrol uniform, consisting of a white battle jacket emblazoned by the Galactic Patrol's emblem and a purple jumpsuit underneath. His uniform consists of a utility belt with a holster for his blaster and a pair of communicator-like device covering both of his ears.

Abilities[]

Merus is an extremely capable fighter. He is the strongest member of the Galactic Patrol and is acknowledged by Vegeta for his skill and agility. As an angel,[3] Merus's ki is not detectable. The full extent of Merus's power is unknown, as he is forced to hold back in order to prevent others from discovering him.[4] However, despite his considerable prowess, he still considers himself no match for Moro.[5]

Physical Prowess[]

Merus is exceedingly fast, capable of drawing his blaster, firing, and blocking a bullet from Mr. Satan's own gun. He is also capable of moving so fast as to catch both Son Gokū and Vegeta—both capable of using godly transformations—off-guard and knock them out.[6] His speed is such that he was able to sabotage an enemy spaceship without Vegeta being able to follow his movements, or even realize it was happening, at all. He also has sharp reflexes, able to dodge bullets from guns without even seeing them coming.[5]

As a skilled martial artist, Merus is physically strong. He was able to hold up a cart of blue arium with ease.[5] He is also a skilled fighter, able to push the likes of Gokū to his limits during their training together.[2] Perhaps due to his connection to the angels, he appears to have some knowledge of Ultra Instinct, though it is currently unknown if he possesses the technique himself or not.[4]

Technological Prowess[]

Despite being a user of the Air Dance Technique, Merus relies on the miniature jets in the boots of his uniform to propel himself through the air to fly.[5]

Trivia[]

  • Merus's name has a double-meaning. It is a pun on surume, a type of dry, shredded squid popular in Russia, Hawaii, and some Asian countries. It is also taken directly from the Latin merus, which refers to undiluted "pure" wine, hinting at his connection to the Angels.
